Artist Statement
This is a photo of a small simba statue, given to me by my late grandmother. I made a small white box out of paper and moved it close to a window so I could get a natural light. It was hard to get different angles, I could've improved this by making a bigger box. This object is important to me because my grandma gave it to me when I was around eleven. We went to visit her up north in the summer, like we usually did. She kept a collection of small things. She had a collection of beanie babies and a collection of small disney statues. When she noticed I was looking at them she let me choose one, as well as giving me a blue beanie baby, which I haven't been able to find. These are the only photos I have of the statue, because moments after I took the photo, my mother knocked it off the table and it broke. Simba will always be in our mind.
Pumpkins Grow Green
You may be wondering, why is the pumpkin green? My mom bought a giant bag of tiny pumpkins, and my sister decided that she should paint them all. We now have an assortment of colorful pumpkins in our dining room. This pumpkin was my favorite because it was very shiny, and the stem was painted in a glittery silver color. We get these tiny pumpkins and they always rot by halloween and smell absolutely horrible and stink up the house for at least a week after we throw them out. I usually hate them, but they're admittedly cute now that their painted.
As Things Age
This stuffed elephant belonged to my dad when he was a baby, and we still have it today. I took this photo of it in a chair I taped white paper to. Ellie The Elephant has not held up through time, and is not something you'd want to cuddle at night. It's ears are falling off, and it's no longer soft, but it's an important memory. It's also covered in orange stains.
Lucy
This is another very old stuffed animal, that was my dad's when he was young. We had a pet chihuahua named Lucy who ripped off one of it's arm so it's arm has had to be reattached. This stuffed animal is probably haunted, but we still keep it. It's limbs are asymmetrical and it's eyes are a dark black. I can't look at it at night without being thoroughly frightened. I
Fall Shoes
These are some 11 dollar shoes I got from a Forever 21 in Chicago, while visiting some family. They held up really well for the price. I recently became very interested in making art I can wear. I've made a few pairs of shoes and these are the ones that I like most right now, because they're related to the fall. These are important to me because fall is my favorite season of all time, and I think these shoes represent that.
